Ashford & Simpson’s Sugar Bar has hosted the best and most dynamic Open Mic for the last 3 years in New York City. During these 3 years they have had many guests and entertainers such as: Stevie Wonder, Raphael Sadiq, Patti La Belle, Dr. Maya Angelou, Queen Latifah, Mario, Michael McDonald, and Roberta Flack to name just a few. Woven between the buffet of celebrity guests and Grammy winning artists are the next generation of powerful performers.

It was always Nick & Val’s intention to bring new artists to the light, and so it is every Thursday night. Having captured their enthusiasm and hearts, these rising artists attend Ashford & Simpson’s Sugar Bar’s Open Mic Night faithfully. Whether performing cover songs or originals, these talented performers know they can rely upon the audience’s response to inform them if they’ve missed a note or delivered flawlessly. The performers have used Open Mic Night as a means to master their live shows, from establishing a memorable stage presence to improving their vocal skills and deliver.

And - the menue is red-hot favorites and the club bustles with excitement and performers all week. This is one of those worst kept secrets of Manhattan - after dark. Valerie Simpson carries on the tradition that meant so much to her late husband Nick Ashley.
